Spooky return with a genre-defying project…
There are very few groups who can claim to be true pioneers; Spooky, however, are. Be it their auspicious debut album ‘Gargantuan’ on William Orbit’s Guerilla, touring with Aphex Twin, remixing Sven Vath or producing the ‘Involver’ projects alongside Sasha (as COMA), Duncan Forbes and Charlie May have been at the forefront of electronic music their entire careers.
Now they team-up with Renaissance to present the ‘Nebula EP’, a stunning two-tracker that confirms their mythic status as they push the genre-boundries once again, fusing techno, house and a pinch of acid to devastating effect.
“Following our compilation work on ‘Invol2ver’ and ‘Tales of the Unexpected’ we were itching to get back to producing original works,” say Duncan and Charlie, “We’d been building-up a lot of creative ideas so when we finally got the chance to lay down some tracks it was a really fun process.”
Both tracks take the classic premise of building layer upon layer, culminating at an intense sonic peak, yet are further elevated by Spooky’s incredible production technique and ability to create a truly memorable riff. ‘Inter’ is the brooding, peak-time daddy, whilst ‘Outer’ reels-in a good dose of funk to appeal to those on a housier tip.
The Dons have returned, get ready to join in their fun…
